Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news and gossip that you guys may have missed from icchelseanews…
Burnley defender Kyle Walker has revealed he once had the opportunity to join Chelsea before sealing his move to Manchester City, offering fresh insight into a pivotal moment in his career.
The 35-year-old right-back, now playing for Burnley, said the London club were among those interested in signing him during his time at Tottenham Hotspur, prior to his high-profile transfer to City in 2017.
Walker ultimately opted to join Manchester City in a deal worth around £45 million, a move that proved transformative as he went on to win multiple major honours, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
Reflecting on his career in recent interviews, Walker indicated that while CHELSEA presented a serious option, the project at City under then-manager Pep Guardiola was decisive in shaping his choice
Walker told The Overlap that he was in discussions with the Blues over a potential move, however decided that because he was coming from Tottenham he couldn’t make the controversial switch across London.
He said: “Yeah, Marina, Yeah, I was speaking to her, but I couldn’t have gone there. I couldn’t have gone there because of the Tottenham-Chelsea thing. So I wouldn’t have gone there. So the only option was Manchester City.”
His comments have reignited discussion over how close Chelsea came to signing a player who would go on to become one of the most decorated defenders of his generation. At the time, CHELSEA were competing at the top of English football, but Walker’s move to City coincided with the beginning of a period of sustained domestic dominance for the Manchester club.
Walker has done alot of brilliant things over the seasons, he really is world class. But we do have Reece James and if he was able to stay fit, he would have kept the Englan star on the bench anyways.
FABREGAS TIPPED FOR CHELSEA
Como president Mirwan Suwarso has acknowledged that head coach Cesc Fabregas could one day leave the Serie A club to manage former side Chelsea, amid growing interest in the Spaniard following his rapid rise in management.
Suwarso said it would be unrealistic for the club to ignore mounting speculation linking Fabregas with elite European jobs, as the former Spain international continues to impress in his first senior coaching role.
The 38-year-old, who played for both Arsenal and CHELSEA during a decorated career, has guided Como into an unlikely push for Champions League qualification this season, elevating the club’s profile across Europe.
Fabregas initially took charge on an interim basis in 2023 before being appointed permanently, and has since overseen a sharp upward trajectory for the Lombardy side, including a top-half finish last season and notable wins against traditional Serie A powerhouses.
His success has not gone unnoticed. Reports in recent months have linked him with clubs such as Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, while pundits have increasingly tipped him as a future managerial candidate for Arsenal, where he previously served as captain.
‘Cesc is really very important for us, but we would be stupid not to think that one day he could go to Arsenal, Barcelona or CHELSEA,’ Como’s chief told Italian outlet Revista Undici
‘If he continues to win with us or in any case to be successful, even if I cannot speak for him, I believe he could have bigger dreams. Having said that, I hope that as long as he is here he will help us create a success plan also for those who will have to replace him.
‘For me, when he leaves, if he ever leaves, he should be the one to choose who will take his place. He should be involved in the choice.
‘Being a member of the Board of Football, he will have to help us appoint the next coach.’
CHELSEA WANTS KAYODE
Chelsea are reportedly monitoring Brentford full-back Michael Kayode as they continue to target emerging European talent, with sources indicating the Italian youngster has emerged as a potential transfer option ahead of the summer window.
According to reports, ***CHELSEA***’s recruitment team has been tracking Kayode’s development closely following his move to Brentford, where he has begun to attract attention for his athleticism, defensive awareness and attacking intent from wide areas.
Chelsea’s long-term strategy under their current ownership has focused heavily on acquiring young, high-upside players, and Kayode appears to fit that profile. The club are believed to be keen on strengthening their defensive depth, particularly in wide positions, where injuries and inconsistency have exposed a lack of reliable options.
Brentford, however, are not expected to let the player leave easily. Having only recently integrated Kayode into their setup, the West London side view him as a key part of their future and would likely demand a significant fee to consider any sale. There is also an understanding that the player himself is currently focused on continuing his development with regular first-team opportunities.
While ***CHELSEA***’s interest signals Kayode’s rising reputation, any potential deal remains at an early stage, with no formal offer yet submitted. Much could depend on how the youngster’s role evolves at Brentford over the remainder of the season.
Although a switch to Stamford Bridge would represent a major step up in profile, it could prove to be a risky move for Kayode at this stage of his career. Chelsea’s squad is already packed with young talent competing for limited minutes, and several promising players have struggled to secure consistent game time amid constant rotation and managerial pressure for immediate results.
Moreover, ***CHELSEA***’s recent recruitment model has created intense internal competition, which, while beneficial in the long term, can hinder individual development if opportunities are scarce.
