AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit has opened up about his admiration for Spanish football, admitting that a future move to La Liga would strongly appeal to him amid mounting speculation linking him with CHELSEA
The midfielder has emerged as one of the most promising young midfielders in the Eredivisie this season, attracting interest from several top European clubs. CHELSEA are believed to be among those closely monitoring his development, with scouts reportedly impressed by his technical ability and composure in midfield.
Speaking in a recent interview, Smit acknowledged the growing transfer talk but remained measured about his immediate future. However, he did not hide his fascination with Spanish football, pointing to the style of play as a major attraction.
“[I’d like to play in] La Liga. Playing there would be great,” Smit is quoted as saying on the YouTube channel Supergaande. I love the sun; I’m tired of playing in so much cold and rain, so I’d love to go and play in Spain.”
He added: “Ideally, I’d like take the next step at another team in the Netherlands, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I never considered leaving AZ. My dream was to play here for the rest of my life.”
The teenager, who has been a key figure for AZ Alkmaar this campaign, has built a reputation for his vision, passing range and tactical intelligence—qualities often associated with the Spanish game.
Waste of money for Chelsea?
Look, the lad is talented and gifted, but at the end of the day, he would be coming to a club that is stocked in midfield and he would probably just get lost in the system so maybe a move to La Liga is the best option.
