March 19 – Arsenal’s 16-year-old starlet Max Dowman will be represented by father Rob and older brother Ethan after the pair secured agent licences through, positioning the family to manage the teenager themselves rather than hand control to a major agency.
Dowman recently made English Premier League history by becoming the youngest scorer in the competition’s 34-year history and many believe that that is just the start with media calling for the teenager to be selected for England’s 2026 World Cup squad.
Dowman signed a pre-contract with Arsenal in January, which will roll into a professional deal when he turns 17 on 31 December. For now, the legal groundwork has been handled by Onside Law, with the expectation that his father and brother will take on a bigger role in future negotiations.
In football, a family-first approach isn’t new. Lionel Messi was famously guided for years by his father, Jorge Messi, while Neymar has long been represented by his father, Neymar Santos Sr.
In both cases, trust and control were prioritised over traditional agency structures. While both Neymar and Messi made fortunes, the tax man wasn’t far behind.
When FIFA loosened its agent regulations a decade ago, the door opened for more family-led management models. What sets the Dowmans apart is preparation. Rob Dowman runs a successful insurance business, while Ethan brings a university economics background and industry experience. Both have passed FIFA’s licensing exams, giving them formal standing as well as personal investment.
The message from the family is clear: no rush, no noise, and no need to hand over control.
