Mark Robins will make late calls about whether to involve Bosun Lawal and Divin Mubama when Stoke City head to Preston North End (Friday, 8pm).
Both players have been stepping up their training this week but the Stoke boss has to decide if they are ready to be included in his squad for the last Championship match before the spring international break – in which they both may be involved.
Lawal, aged 22, has been out of action since a hamstring injury sustained at Charlton on February 11, but he could be named in the Republic of Ireland squad today (11.30am) for the World Cup qualifying play-offs.
Mubama, aged 21, suffered ankle ligament damage against Queens Park Rangers on January 17, but he could be in the England under-21s squad for Euros qualifiers against Andorra and Moldova.

Robins said at his pre-match press conference: “Bosun has been training with us this week, and the worry for me is the internationals. He may end up going to Ireland, but he’s not ready yet to start games, that’s for sure. That’s a worry because I don’t want him to go and break down. He hasn’t done quite enough yet. Maybe another week’s proper training would have been ok, or better, but he hasn’t had that yet.
“We’ve just got to be careful with him. I think he is capable of doing some bits and, on the back of that, I have a decision to make about whether he is involved at Preston or not.”
“Divin is back training, and he’s hoping to be included with the under-21s in the international break but will be with us in some capacity at Preston.”
Ben Wilmot (calf) is out until the summer. Viktor Johansson (shoulder) is hoping to be back to play again before the end of the season and Gavin Bazunu (thigh) is hoping to be fit after the international break.
Aaron Cresswell is close to a return, Lewis Baker can hopefully see the light at the end of a long tunnel, Robert Bozenik will step up his non-contact work but Ato Ampah is still a while away from fitness.
Robins said: “Robert Bozenik isn’t with us yet, he’s with sports science and will be drip fed in, I think next week maybe for passing drills and maybe bits and pieces but he’s not ready yet.
“Ato is nowhere near yet I don’t think. He’s got a couple of weeks left in a boot. He’s got this problem he’s trying to overcome with his toe.
“Lewis has been working this week. He had a day off (on Wednesday) having worked back to back days for the first time without real pain. He may come through that and we’ll see him hopefully on the grass more in the coming days. He’s back out there today.”
