Nosso Palestra claims that the Gunners “do not rule out” making a move for the 18-year-old in the future.
Kone was actually on the radar of several big European clubs even before he made the surprise move from the Ivory Coast to Brazil.
However, the teenager is already making a name for himself with Palmeiras, having impressed for their Under-20s this season.
What do fans need to know about Kone?
The youngster is a centre-back by trade, and he is left-footed. For Palmeiras, he has made three appearances in Brazil’s Under-20 Championship and another two appearances in the Under-20 Copa Libertadores.
In the latter competition, Kone started the opening two group games, the 5-0 win over Club Deportivo Universidad Catolica and the 1-0 victory against Olimpia.
While the defender was an unused substitute in the third group match, a 1-1 draw versus Club Sporting Cristal, he could feature in the semi-final clash against Santiago Wanderers, which is scheduled to be played later today (Thursday, 19th March). Arsenal may well have scouts watching the match. Buy an Arsenal baseball cap from the official store here.
Kone is eligible to make the switch to England
As the Ivorian is already 18 years of age, he would be able to secure a work permit if he did join the Gunners this summer.
For now, they are simply keeping a watching brief on Kone, but Nosso Palestra report that the player may soon be promoted to the first team, and if he performs well at senior level, it may lead to a formal approach.
