Pep Guardiola
Girona head coach Míchel Sánchez has said he feels ready to manage Manchester City, directly addressing growing uncertainty over Pep Guardiola’s long‑term future.
“I feel ready” – Míchel opens the door to Manchester City role
Speaking on La Otra Grada, via Estadio Deportivo, Míchel made it clear he would not hesitate to replace Guardiola at the Etihad.
“I do see myself as ready. I feel ready to coach any team,” he said. He did, though, stress that any move “always depends on the clubs.”
City Football Group links strengthen Míchel’s case
Míchel’s rise at Girona has become one of European football’s most eye‑catching managerial stories.
He guided Girona to promotion, stabilised them in La Liga, and even led an unlikely push toward the Champions League places. Those achievements have not gone unnoticed within the City Football Group structure.
With Guardiola’s future regularly questioned, especially after Manchester City’s latest Champions League exit, the Etihad bench may soon require a successor.
Míchel’s familiarity with the CFG’s structure, style, and expectations could make him a natural option to pursue.
Interestingly, Michel has spoken this week about how he’s working to get the best out of City youngster Claudio Echeverri.
Why Míchel fits Manchester City’s coaching model

Beyond results on the pitch, Míchel was keen to highlight his people‑first management style. That’s a trait that Manchester City value highly.
Each season, he delivers the same message to his players: “Let’s live this year together.”
He emphasises human management, culture, and performance over ego. He also insisted he has “no magic wand” but relies on connection and clarity.
Míchel also revealed he has been preparing for a move abroad, joking about his improving English while insisting he is ready for the demands of the Premier League.
Guardiola uncertainty keeps succession questions alive
Míchel Sánchez also touched on the Real Madrid job, backing Raúl as a future candidate. But his most striking comments were about his own readiness to step up.
After transforming Girona and proving he can thrive under pressure, the Spaniard now sees himself as a coach capable of leading a European giant.
With Pep Guardiola’s future remaining a constant talking point, Míchel’s comments ensure his name will stay firmly in the Manchester City conversation as the summer approaches.
