Vikings signing could lead to trade with Steelers, Packers, Raiders or Jets

The Minnesota Vikings have added another quarterback to their already crowded room.

The Vikings announced on Thursday they are bringing Carson Wentz back on a one-year deal and he now joins a room that includes Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy.

This obviously makes for an interesting dynamic that could result in a trade at some point, whether that be sooner or later.

The expectation is Murray is going to win out in the competition for the starting job over McCarthy, the team's 2024 first-round pick, and it's hard to fathom Minnesota holding on to all three quarterbacks.

If that scenario with Murray unfolds, the Vikings may choose to unload Wentz or McCarthy, with the latter likely to draw more interest considering his age.

Four teams we could see calling the Vikings are the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders.

We know, we know, the Packers and the Vikings are in the same division and trades between divisional foes are rare.

But we don't think it's impossible the Vikings would be willing to unload Wentz to the Packers, who would make sense for Green Bay thanks to their need for a more established veteran backup behind Jordan Love.

It's possible the Packers could have interest in McCarthy, but we're highly skeptical that Minnesota would run the risk of Green Bay fixing McCarthy like it did Malik Willis and making Minnesota look bad.

It's one thing if another team does it, but it's an entirely different story if a divisional foe gets McCarthy on the right track.

When it comes to the Steelers, they could have interest in either Vikings quarterback if Aaron Rodgers retires.

Wentz would add another veteran to a competition that would include Will Howard and Mason Rudolph, and McCarthy would be a young signal-caller who could at least give some semblance of hope for the future at the position in Pittsburgh.

The Jets are another team that could have interest in either signal-caller.

We know New York was rumored to have interest in Wentz as a backup to Geno Smith, and we'd surmise the Jets wouldn't be opposed to adding a young signal-caller like McCarthy with no hope for the future on the depth chart currently.

As for the Raiders, Wentz would be the quarterback they'd be interested in.

With Fernando Mendoza set to take the reins of the franchise, a veteran backup is needed and it wouldn't hurt to add an upgrade over Aidan O'Connell, something Wentz would be.

We tend to believe the Vikings are going to see how things play out in the between Murray and McCarthy before making a move, but when that time comes, any of these four teams could be a trade suitor for Minnesota.
