The Minnesota Vikings have already added one quarterback this offseason and are now retaining another.
KSTP Sports confirmed via a source that Carson Wentz and the team agreed to a one-year deal on Thursday to keep the veteran in Minnesota. The club has since confirmed.
Wentz joined the Vikings on a one-year deal right before the start of the season last year with the idea he’d serve as J.J. McCarthy’s backup. However, Wentz ended up starting five games with McCarthy hurt, throwing for 1,216 yards, 6 touchdowns and 5 interceptions while completing 65.1% of his passes.
The 33-year-old also took 19 sacks and several big hits, ultimately suffering a dislocated shoulder, torn labrum and fractured socket, ending his season early.

With [the Kyler Murray addition last week](https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/kyler-murray-signs-1-year-deal-with-the-vikings/) and McCarthy sticking around, Wentz can serve as veteran depth for the team instead of relying on Max Brosmer, who struggled in his brief shot last year.
Over his career, Wentz has played in 103 games, thrown for 23,626 yards and 159 touchdowns — all more than every other quarterback on Minnesota’s roster combined — as well as 72 interceptions while completing 62.8% of his passes.
