'Disappointing': Liam Rosenior gives timescale on Trevoh Chalobah injury, and confirms Chelsea man's operation

Liam Rosenior has a tough task to galvanise his Chelsea side for the trip to Everton on Saturday evening after the heavy loss to PSG – and the manager has been speaking about injuries on Thursday.

While Chelsea have been knocked out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage, the Blues now have the task of making sure they qualify for next season’s competition. Currently, Chelsea sit in sixth position.

Rosenior has watched his Chelsea side pick up just one win in their last five Premier League games, a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa. They have also lost to Arsenal and Newcastle and drawn with Leeds and Burnley.

Do you think Chelsea should sack Liam Rosenior? Or are you willing to give him more time?🤔

Trevoh Chalobah news as Liam Rosenior provides update

On Tuesday, Chelsea were without Reece James, Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill in defence. An extensive list of names that was then added to, by Trevoh Chalobah, who was stretchered off late on.

The England defender said he was lucky not to have broken his ankle. Speaking on Thursday in his pre-match press conference, Rosenior delivered an update on the injury status of the Chelsea squad.

“It wasn’t until after the game that I saw the image. I was worried. It’s nowhere near as serious as we first feared. We’re looking at a period of six weeks, but we are in a better place than what we initially thought.

“With an ACL [on Colwill] he’s hitting all of the benchmarks. It’s brilliant to have his presence on the pitch back, but we’re still looking at a good while. Hopefully [back before the end of the season].

“Filip, he had a scan and needed a minor operation. It’s not major, but it will be a case of a few weeks. He’s in the wars at the moment. Reece – We’re going to look more at Reece more after the international break. It’s not serious, but there’s something in his hamstring we’re going to look at it after the break.”

How will Chelsea line-up against Everton, amid the news?

What will come as a boost, is that Rosenior did not mention Wesley Fofana or Malo Gusto when naming the players sidelined for Everton on the weekend. Gusto was only an illness issue, so is expected back.

Is this a step too far?

Whether Fofana is fit or not is unclear, but if fit, it is likely he starts. With Chalobah and Colwill missing, it will be between Benoit Badiashile, Jorrel Hato, Mamadou Sarr and Josh Acheampong to partner him.

With James still sidelined, Andrey Santos is likely to remain alongside Moises Caicedo. Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and either Pedro Neto or Alejandro Garnacho to start on the left, behind Joao Pedro.
