Daniel Farke was critical of the referee’s performance in the meeting with Crystal Palace last weekend.

Arsenal will take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final under the watchful eye of fourth official Thomas Bramall this weekend in a big appointment for the 36-year-old following a controversial last outing.

Bramall was in charge of the 0-0 meeting between Crystal Palace and Leeds United on Sunday afternoon. Both managers were asked about the official’s performance following the draw due to two incidents.

The first saw Bramall send off Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson in the first half. The centre-back was given his marching orders when picking up a second yellow card on the stroke of half time.

Both of the player’s booking appeared soft and Bramall appeared to forget that Gudmundsson was already cautioned before handing him his second, taking time before reaching for the red. Bramall had to be reminded by Crystal Palace players and fourth official Paul Tierney.

Bramall then angered Whites fans when letting Brennan Johnson off from a second booking when bringing down James Justin to stop a counter-attack in his fourth foul of the game.

The referee has now been confirmed as the fourth official for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Arsenal and Manchester City. Alongside Carabao Cup referee Peter Bankes, assistants Neil Davies and Steve Meredith and VAR John Brooks, he has been taken off any domestic league duties for the weekend as is standard procedure.

Speaking after the clash at Selhurst Park, Leeds United boss Daniel Farke said: "I'm not sure there are really words needed, everyone in the stadium could see. It was not even close to a yellow card, there was no pace in the duel, it was not a tactical foul.

“Why he has decided to give a yellow, has forgotten this player is on a yellow and was himself surprised his decision means a sending off. When you compare this when Brennan Johnson [on a yellow] was there with a tackle with more pace, a clear tactical foul - it was not a yellow for me, I'm not asking for a yellow/red.

“But for Gabi, his second foul of the game, then the game is influenced in a key matter. Details make the difference, a player less makes 10 per cent difference more or less. Thank God we found a way to travel with a point."
