Chiefs RB Dameon Pierce signs with Eagles in NFL free agency news

Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Dameon Pierce is signing with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ NFL free agency overhaul continued on March 19, after the news that running back Dameon Pierce would be signing with the recent Super Bowl rival Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles organization announced the news themselves on X, stating: “We’ve agreed to terms on a one-year deal with RB Dameon Pierce.”
Pierce’s tenure in Kansas City was pretty bizarre, to say the least. The Chiefs signed him to their practice squad in late November, after he was released by the Houston Texans.
Pierce then rode the inactive list, learning head coach Andy Reid’s playbook and system down the stretch. Here’s the strange part.
When asked about Pierce and whether he’d be deployed once KC fell out of playoff contention, Reid and other members of the coaching staff consistently told reporters that he was learning the system for next season. They even compared his transition to that of wide receiver Tyquan Thornton, who was originally added as a midseason pickup before getting snaps inside the offense the following season.
This all made plenty of sense, right up until the Chiefs let Pierce hit the open market in free agency.
It’s unclear whether Pierce chose not to re-sign in KC, or whether the Chiefs just decided to overhaul the entire position. Either way, Pierce is moving on to the Eagles after appearing on 5 offensive snaps for Kansas City.
Chiefs’ NFL Free Agency Overhaul Starts With Kenneth Walker III

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach practically took a wrecking ball to the KC running back room this March.
Former starter Isiah Pacheco is gone. Depth players like Pierce and Carson Steele are gone. And veteran Kareem Hunt remains unsigned.
The only half-back currently still on the roster is 2025 draft pick Brashard Smith, and his 53-man spot is no guarantee in 2026.
Obviously, the RB demolition began with Kenneth Walker III.
Coming off a Super Bowl MVP and generally solid career so far, Walker was the top free-agent running back on the market after Breece Hall and Javonte Williams were secured by their respective franchises. To the Chiefs’ credit, they didn’t hesitate, offering Walker a contract and snap share he could not refuse.
From there, Veach also added a nice change-of-pace option who can also catch the ball out of the backfield. Former Arizona Cardinals backup Emari Demercado.
The Chiefs could still use one or two more backs for training camp. Perhaps Hunt re-signs, or Kansas City spends a mid-to-late-round pick on a scheme fit.
But the room now starts with Walker and Demercado, two fresh faces. The converted wide receiver, Smith, will likely try to hold off any incoming rookies for a roster spot.
