The Cleveland Cavaliers are gearing up for a matchup on the road in Illinois on Thursday, March 19, to face the Chicago Bulls.

Heading into the matchup, the Cavaliers didn’t plan to have any major changes on the injury report. That changed on Thursday afternoon, as the Cavaliers announced they would be downgrading the veteran guard, Donovan Mitchell.

Going against the Bulls, the Cavaliers could now miss more than just Jarrett Allen, Craig Porter Jr., and Tyrese Proctor, who have all been ruled out well in advance.

According to the official NBA injury report, the Cavaliers are listing Mitchell as questionable for the game.

He is dealing with a left eye contusion. As of Thursday afternoon, the star guard is likely viewed as a game-time decision heading into the matchup.

Mitchell’s last absence occurred on March 3, when the Cavs faced the Detroit Pistons. Since then, he has appeared in the last six games for the Cavs.

During that stretch, Mitchell has been shooting 43% from the field, averaging 23.5 points per game. He is also dishing out 6.3 assists per game, while coming down with 4.3 rebounds per game.

Outside of the four games Mitchell missed between the end of February and the start of March, the All-Star has been quite healthy this year.

Going into Thursday’s action, Mitchell has appeared in 61 games for the Cavaliers. Seeing the court for 33.5 minutes per game, Mitchell has been hitting on 47% of his shots from the field and knocking down 36% of his threes.

The veteran produced 28.0 points per game, while producing 5.9 assists per game, and coming down with 4.5 rebounds per outing.

The Cavaliers have a strong standing within the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

Heading into Thursday’s action, the Cavs are 42-27 on the season. They trail the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and the Detroit Pistons. They are 2.5 games behind the third-seeded Knicks.

The Cavaliers have a 2.5-game lead over the Toronto Raptors, who hold the fifth seed.

Going into Thursday’s game, the Cavaliers are taking on an injured and rebuilding Bulls team with a 28-41 record. They are just 4-6 over their last 10 games.

The Bulls and the Cavaliers are slated for an 8 PM ET tip.
