"There is mutual interest, league sources say, for the Hawks to potentially decline their 2026-27 team option on Kuminga valued at $24.3 million in order for the sides to hash out a longer-term agreement," Fischer reported in The Stein Line. Kuminga has not shied away from the idea of building something sustainable in Atlanta.
"That's the goal," Kuminga told The Stein Line. "That's what we're trying to do here, what we're trying to stamp here as a group. We talk about it every day. It starts now. We're not waiting until next year."
Kuminga joined the Hawks at the trade deadline after leaving the Golden State Warriors and has quickly started to find his rhythm in the rotation. In a short sample of games, he has already shown impact on both ends of the floor, bringing energy, rebounding, and scoring efficiency.

Through his first six games with Atlanta, Kuminga is putting up solid numbers across the board. He is averaging 14.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 steals in 22.7 minutes per game.
His shooting has also stood out, hitting 56.6% from the field and an impressive 58.3% from three, showing confidence and efficiency in a new system.
At the team level, the Hawks are trending in the right direction as well. Atlanta has now won 11 straight games, pushing their record to 38-31 and strengthening their position in a tight Eastern Conference playoff race.
