The Lions have re-signed defensive tackle Myles Adams to a one-year contract
The Detroit Lions have been active to begin the offseason, and considering how they missed out on the playoffs entirely last year, that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It has, however, been surprising to see which players the front office has decided to move on from.
Early in free agency, the Lions have seen several of their own free agents land with new teams. After hitting the open market, it seemed like veteran defensive tackle Myles Adams could be headed for the exit door as well, considering how he didn’t even play for the team last season. However, it looks like he will be back with Detroit in 2026.
Lions Re-Sign Myles Adams to 1-Year Contract
Adams didn’t get selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he was quickly scooped up by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent. While he initially had a spot on the team’s practice squad, he was released midway through September, and it wasn’t until December that Adams found a new home, as the Seattle Seahawks added him to their own practice squad.
Over the next four years, Adams worked as an extra layer of depth along Seattle’s defensive line. He played sparingly, as he racked up just 30 tackles, one sack, and one pass breakup during his 26 games on the field for the Seahawks. Midway through the 2024 campaign, though, the Lions came in and signed Adams off of the Seahawks’ practice squad, and he’s been with them ever since.
While Adams racked up four tackles and a sack in four games with Detroit in 2024, he spent the entire previous season on the Lions’ practice squad. On the surface, it seemed like Adams would aim to sign with a team in free agency that would give him a bigger role. Instead, he’s found his way back to Detroit, as it was revealed he re-signed with the team on a one-year contract.
“Welcome back, Myles!” the team said in a post on X as it officially announced his return to the team.

Adams is a depth piece who is familiar with the Lions’ defense, and at the very least, he has proven he can hold his own when he finds his way onto the field for the team. In a perfect world, Adams won’t play much for Detroit, but the front office must have all of its bases covered heading into the new season. Whether or not he will have a spot on the active roster is unknown, but Adams is a good security blanket for the Lions to have.
Chances are, Adams’ future with Detroit will likely depend on how he fares during training camp. If he shows out over the summer, Adams could lock up a roster spot with the team to begin the season. If not, though, he likely will find his way back to the practice squad. Expectations aren’t particularly high for Adams, but depth is important in the NFL, which is why his surprising return to town is so noteworthy.
