The Houston Texans have drafted well in recent seasons. So well, in fact, that some of the Texans’ decisions that initially looked wise lost their luster as more time went on. Such was the case for former Texans running back Dameon Pierce.
Pierce burst onto the scene for the Texans as a rookie, but quickly faded into the background as time went on.
After the team parted ways with him during the 2025 season, Pierce has found a new home.

The Texans selected Pierce 107th overall in the 2022 draft, and he rushed for 939 yards and 4 touchdowns on 220 attempts as a rookie.
However, Pierce fell out of favor from that point on, seeing his production trend down right along with his playing time in 2023 and 2024. Houston cut ties with Pierce in November 2025, and he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs after clearing waivers.
Now, Pierce is heading to another recent Super Bowl champion: the Philadelphia Eagles.
“We’ve agreed to terms on a one-year deal with RB Dameon Pierce,” the Eagles announced in a post on X on March 19.
Pierce, who turned 26 in February, appeared in one game for the Chiefs last season, rushing four times for 10 yards in Week 18 against the Las Vegas Raiders. He has a 199-745-4 line over the past three seasons.
Pierce faces an uphill battle with the Eagles, just as he did with the Texans.
Still, he is young and has less wear and tear on his body than some of his peers due to his lesser workload over the past few years in Houston.

Pierce’s signing with the Chiefs came just ahead of a matchup against the Texans in the regular season, in which he did not play. He will get another opportunity this coming season, with the Eagles hosting the Texans at some point during the season.
However, this move appears more thought-out, at least from the Eagles’ perspective.
[Eagles general manager] Howie Roseman loves taking chances on former relatively high draft picks,” “The Philly Special” host Anthony DiBona posted in reaction to the news.
More specifically, The Athletic’s Zach Berman reported that Pierce is “someone who has intrigued the Eagles before.” Pierce will compete with Carson Steele, Tank Bigsby, and Will Shipley behind Saquon Barkley for a spot on the Eagles’ depth chart.
Texans RB in Spotlight for 2026
David Montgomery, Houston Texans

The Texans aggressively remade their backfield despite Pierce’s early success. They acquired Joe Mixon in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2024 offseason and signed ex-Cleveland Browns star Nick Chubb during free agency in 2025.
They cut Mixon, at his request, this offseason in the final year of his contract.
Houston went back to the trade well this offseason, acquiring David Montgomery from the Detroit Lions.
The Texans also roster two backs who were drafted during that span in 2024 sixth-round pick Jawhar Jordan and 2025 fourth-rounder Woody Marks, and there is reason to believe they will keep their options open about the position in the 2026 draft, too.
