Could Everton secure the surprising signing of an Arsenal star ahead of next season?
Everton remain in European contention under David Moyes this season and will hope that they are on their way to returning to where they feel they belong over the coming seasons.
While it might be difficult to define realistic ambitions for the Toffees in the medium-term, clubs such as Aston Villa and Newcastle United have demonstrated that the opportunity is there for traditional big clubs to return to the top with the right management and recruitment. A European campaign next term might be somewhat ahead of schedule for the Merseyside outfit but would provide Moyes with the perfect opportunity to add to his squad and upgrade in key areas, with the attraction of European football in their shiny new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton alerted as Myles Lewis-Skelly could be available for a surprise loan deal
According to reports by Caught Offside, Everton are amongst the clubs who could make a move for Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer if the Arsenal youngster is made available for a loan deal next term.
The 19-year-old left-back enjoyed a stellar breakthrough campaign last season but has found himself falling down the pecking order this term, meaning that a temporary move away from the Emirates may be considered by the club in 2026/27.
Lewis-Skelly would benefit from regular top-flight football to accelerate his development and could fit in well at Everton, who see the contract of starting left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko expire this summer as things stand. Capable of playing both at full-back and in midfield, Lewis-Skelly would be a valuable addition for Moyes, particularly if Everton find themselves competing in Europe next term.
Lewis-Skelly appears unlikely to make Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad due to his lack of action at club level, having played just 312 minutes of Premier League football this term, and being forced to watch the tournament from home this summer might force the teenager to rethink his options over the summer.
Everton could face Premier League competition for Lewis-Skelly
Everton will hope to sign Lewis-Skelly on a loan deal this summer but will face competition from elsewhere in the division if they are to secure his services. Caught Offside cite West Ham United and Crystal Palace as amongst those who may compete with the Toffees for the Arsenal starlet – though, in the case of the former, this will no doubt depend on whether the Hammers retain their Premier League status for next term.
Despite a challenging campaign on a personal level, Lewis-Skelly remains one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the Premier League and still has many levels to reach as he gains further experience in the game.
This may, at least in the short term, be away from the Emirates – and Moyes will hope to convince the six-cap England international that Merseyside is the best place for him to take the next step in his development. As the Toffees continue to push up the table and challenge for Europe, their transfer business this summer will be to watch out for.
