His relationship with fellow rookie quarterback Andrew Luck was notable and only grew throughout their time together. In Hilton’s second year in the league, he surpassed the quad-digit yardage mark for the first time, recording 1,083 receiving yards. Hilton would surpass 1,000 yards five times in his career, leading the entire league in receiving yards in2016 with 1,448.
Hilton earned the nickname “The Ghost” due to his speed and ability to vanish from defenses and get past them for scores. His namesake ran true in the Colts’ 2013 Wild Card matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. After rallying from a 24-7 deficit, Luck connected with Hilton for the game-winning score on a64-yard dot to secure the 45-44 victory. Hilton’s 224-receiving yards in this game are still the most in a playoff game by any Colts receiver.
Another viral moment for Hilton came after he scored a73-yard touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014 to celebrate the birth of his daughter. Hilton provided a raw and emotional postgame press conference after, where hebroke down, expressing his love for his family.

Now, looking towards the future, the Colts just signed wide receiver Alec Pierce to afour-year, $116-million contract. Pierce may not be as sneaky as Hilton was, but his ability to stretch a field is similar. However, Pierce has developed his game beyond just his ability to go deep and is expected to be the main target for 2026.
Pierce spoke on Kay Adams’ Up & Adams show on March 4th and elaborated on what an expanded role could mean for him. When asked if he could be a primary target,Pierce responded, “Something I definitely believe I can do. I think it’s something I haven’t really had the chance to do. You can look at the numbers, the targets I’ve had the past few years…there’s not many receivers, very many receivers that have got 1,000 yards and under 100 targets, and you know I had 84.”
With Michael Pittman Jr. now in Pittsburgh, Pierce will look to evolve his game even more and make a name for himself, much like the beloved TY Hilton.
