Liam Rosenior admits he's 'so excited' about one young Chelsea player

Liam Rosenior has leaped to the defense of Mamadou Sarr after the 20-year-old’s challenging Champions League debut, insisting that it will shape his Chelsea future.

Chelsea have had to chop and change things of late due to injuries and suspensions, which has allowed for players like Mamadou Sarr to get more of an opportunity.

However, his Champions League debut didn’t go as planned. Sarr was at fault for the opening goal, miscontrolling the ball, which allowed PSG to open the scoring at Stamford Bridge.

At just 20 years of age, it was a big learning curve for the defender.

But fans have witnessed Sarr’s quality when he became the first Chelsea defender to have a 98% passing accuracy in a game this season from at least 60 passes.

And Liam Rosenior is still putting his faith in the youngster.

Is this a step too far?

Liam Rosenior gives Mamadou Sarr his backing at Chelsea

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Everton this weekend (Football.London), Liam Rosenior looks forward to seeing Sarr develop at Stamford Bridge.

“Mamadou, I’m so excited for his career, that’s why he’s here. He has to go through negative spells at times in his career. It will make him an even better player.”

Enzo Maresca had doubts over whether Mamadou Sarr would be ready anytime soon for a part in Chelsea’s season, but since returning from Strasbourg, he’s shown plenty of promise.

And he could be set to get more of an opportunity with Trevoh Chalobah out injured for six weeks.

Do you think Chelsea should sack Liam Rosenior? Or are you willing to give him more time?🤔

Liam Rosenior’s next steps for Mamadou Sarr

Mamadou Sarr’s potential remains within Liam Rosenior’s long-term vision.

While his early error against PSG was a trial by fire, Rosenior’s priority now must be protecting Sarr from the fallout. The manager needs to move Sarr back into his natural central defensive role, rather than forcing him to move out wide more in a back three last time out.

By focusing on steady Premier League minutes and simplifying his responsibilities, Rosenior can help Sarr regain the confidence and consistency displayed in Ligue 1.

We’ve got to remember, Sarr is still learning the game and this is his first experience at such a high level.
