Both Arsenal and Man City have been linked to signing a Newcastle defender ahead of the summer.
Man City will hope they can take some silverware into the summer transfer window, although it is looking like a tough challenge. The Cityzens got knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid, and now sit nine points behind Arsenal in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola will be keen to improve his squad in the summer transfer window in order to catch up to Arsenal, and one position they want to improve is in defence, as several older players need replacing.
Man City face battle with Arsenal for Livramento
Man City have held a long-standing interest in Newcastle defender Tino Livramento as a potential long-term replacement for Walker at the right-back position. The English defender seems happy at Newcastle, but reports are saying he could leave in the summer.
According to the Times, Arsenal are eyeing a bid for Livramento in the summer, and could sign him as a replacement for either Ben White or Myles Lewis-Skelly, who could both leave the Emirates in the summer.
This means that Man City will need to keep tabs on the situation, because they won’t just want to miss out on Livramento, but also wouldn’t want him to go to their biggest Premier League title rivals in Arsenal in the summer.
The 23-year-old has an estimated market value of around £35m, but Newcastle would likely demand a much higher fee for him. He is very important to Newcastle, and the Magpies will do everything to keep hold of him. Former Newcastle defender John Anderson was quoted by BBC Sport, he said: “"That is not taking away from anything Kieran Trippier has done.
“At 35, to play the games he has done and the standard he is at, week in and week out, is all credit to him. But Livramento just gives you that something [extra]. He has the pace, he is good going forwards, is excellent one-v-one as well. There is not many that get the better of him.”
Man City backed to sign Livramento
Brown said this week: “Yes, very much so. I think that’s pretty much nailed on as far as I’m aware.
“I heard from somebody the other day. I talked to an agent who said that it’s going to be happening. They did expect that sort of big number around the £70m mark, which is a big number, as we say, breaking the record. But I think he’s the right one for City. I think he’s a talented player, and it helps Newcastle fill the coffers.”
