It’s been more than a year since the first AJ Brown trade rumors flooded social media. The former Tennessee Titans star doesn’t look happy in the City of Brotherly Love, but the Philadelphia Eagles have been reluctant to trade him.
Multiple teams have reportedly inquired about his availability. However, with GM Howie Roseman not interested in any transaction, only the New England Patriots are reportedly still in the mix to get him.
That’s why Patriots fans went into a frenzy on Thursday afternoon when team legend Julian Edelman shared a not-so-cryptic post on X.
Unprompted, the former Super Bowl champion shared a GIF of his podcast, with him saying, “We’re all Patriots,” and the camera immediately cutting to Brown.
While he didn’t say anything, the implications are pretty obvious. The Patriots have reportedly been quite aggressive in their pursuit of Brown, and given Edelman’s ties to the organization, he may know something the rest of the world doesn’t.
The Patriots released Stefon Diggs after just one year and signed former Green Bay Packers star Romeo Doubs, but they could still be in the mix to give Drake Maye another prime pass-catching weapon. Character issues aside, Brown is still one of the best wide receivers in the game, topping 1,000 receiving yards even in a down year for him.
He also has some obvious ties to the organization. He played for head coach Mike Vrabel in Tennessee, and they still have a close relationship.
That said, the Eagles shouldn’t be in much of a rush to get a deal done. They have to trade him with a post-June 1 designation anyway, given the dead-cap hit they’d have to absorb otherwise.
Still, it looks like the wheels are already in motion, and unless Edelman is trolling his team’s fans, a trade might be imminent.
