“Fire Him Now” Jerry Jones’ Latest Move Has Cowboys Fans Irate, Demanding Change

Jerry Jones is once again facing sharp criticism from fans and analysts after former Cowboys linebacker Logan Wilson announced his retirement from the NFL at just 29 years old — only months after Dallas traded for him from the Cincinnati Bengals.

The move, which cost the Cowboys a seventh-round pick at the 2025 trade deadline, was supposed to bolster a struggling linebacker group, but Wilson’s abrupt exit has become a glaring example of what many see as Jones’ ongoing issues with roster-building and player evaluation.

Wilson, who was benched by the Bengals in favor of rookie Barrett Carter and reportedly requested a fresh start, never found his footing in Dallas. In seven games with the Cowboys in 2025, he recorded just 24 tackles, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble.

His overall Pro Football Focus grade for the season (including time with Cincinnati) was a disappointing 52.6, ranking him 65th out of 88 qualified linebackers. The brief stint in Dallas proved fruitless, and Wilson retired with a message on Instagram signaling he was ready for “the next chapter of life.”

The retirement has reignited scrutiny of Jerry Jones’ famously frugal and risk-heavy approach to roster construction. While the Cowboys hit on a few moves last offseason — such as acquiring star wide receiver George Pickens — the misses have been far more frequent and costly. Critics point to a pattern: signing or trading for “washed-up” veterans, holding firm in contract disputes only to overpay later, or letting franchise cornerstones walk.

Logan Wilson’s retirement has become a prime example. The Cowboys traded a seventh-rounder for a player who was already struggling in Cincinnati and showed little sign of revival in Dallas. The move was seen as a bargain-bin attempt to fix a linebacker room that desperately needed youth and playmaking, yet it yielded nothing but a short-term roster spot and now a public retirement announcement.

Jerry Jones’ Track Record Under Fire

Jerry Jones has long been known for his hands-on style and reluctance to spend freely in free agency, preferring trades, low-cost veterans, and developmental players. While this approach has occasionally paid dividends, it has also led to repeated criticism when high-upside acquisitions fail to pan out. Wilson’s case fits the narrative: a seemingly cheap trade for a former third-round pick who was already on the decline, only for him to walk away from football entirely shortly after arriving.

Fans on social media have not held back:

“Jerry Jones testing his luck again. Logan Wilson retires at 29 after we trade for him? Classic.”

“They are losing it if they think this is how you build a contender. Cheap moves = cheap results.”

“Jerry keeps bringing in guys who are one foot out the door. Wilson was done in Cincy and we still took him.”

It will be interesting to see how the team rebounds from this and if their owner makes any other confusing moves.
