Updated Minnesota Vikings QB depth chart after Carson Wentz signing

The Minnesota Vikings brought back a familiar face to bolster their quarterback depth, as they agreed to a one-year deal with veteran signal-caller Carson Wentz.

Wentz spent the 2025 season in Minnesota and ended up starting five games for the Vikings before ultimately suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

Minnesota Vikings updated QB depth chart

In addition to Wentz, quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy and Max Bromser still remain on the roster in Minnesota. The Vikings also signed Kyler Murray to a one-year deal after he was released by the Arizona Cardinals.

With four QBs now on the roster, the Vikings appear to be set at the position for next season. But, what will the team’s updated depth chart look like at the QB position? Let’s take a look.

QB1: Kyler Murray

QB2: J.J. McCarthy

QB3: Carson Wentz

QB4: Max Bromser

Obviously, this depth chart isn't set in stone. It's only March and things could certainly change before the season starts. But, Murray is probably the best of the bunch, and he's likely to start for the Vikings.

McCarthy, who is entering his third season with the Vikings after they drafted him in the first round in 2024, will likely be penciled in as the backup, but it’s fair to wonder if Wentz will give him a run for his money in that regard.

Bromser will likely remain at the bottom of the depth chart and could be a candidate to be released before the season starts. That is unless the Vikings try to trade McCarthy in the coming weeks leading up to the draft, which is a possibility.

At the end of the day, options are a good thing to have, and the Vikings have several of them when it comes to the QB spot for the 2026 season.
