Lane Kiffin Insults His Own Former QB, NFL Fans Disgusted By Statement

Lane Kiffin has once again found himself at the center of controversy after an insulting remark about his former Ole Miss quarterback, and New York Giants starter Jaxson Dart. The LSU head coach responded to a viral photo of Dart dressed in a black robe-like outfit while posing with girlfriend Marissa Ayers, laughing at the look and writing on X:

“You know Jaxson Dart is madly in love because he’s dressing up like a pilgrim for his girlfriend.”

Kiffin added a crying-laughing emoji, turning the lighthearted comment into a viral moment that quickly drew backlash from fans who felt the remark crossed a line, especially given their former coach-player relationship.

Dart, 22, was selected 25th overall by the Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft after three seasons under Kiffin at Ole Miss (2022–2024). He was named the starter entering Week 4 of his rookie year and delivered a solid debut campaign: 15 touchdowns against 5 interceptions across 14 regular-season games, plus 9 rushing scores.

He now prepares for his sophomore season in New York under new head coach John Harbaugh, who replaced Brian Daboll after the latter’s midseason firing in 2025.

The Viral Outfit Photo and Kiffin’s Reaction

The photo in question, posted by Ayers (a model and ring card girl with nearly 500,000 Instagram followers), shows Dart in a black ensemble resembling a robe, prompting immediate jokes across social media. One user captioned it:

“What the hell is he wearing?”

Dart’s younger brother, Diesel, joined in with a humorous “Pastor Jax” comment. Ayers confirmed their relationship in January 2026 with an Instagram carousel captioned “Rumor has it … @jaxsondart,” and the couple has continued sharing sweet moments online.

Kiffin’s response — calling the outfit “pilgrim” attire — was meant in jest, but many fans and observers found it unnecessary or even disrespectful coming from a former coach. The comment quickly spread, with reactions ranging from laughter to outright disgust:

“Lane Kiffin roasting his own former QB like that? Classless.”

“Fans disgusted — you coach the kid for three years and then clown him publicly? Weak move.”

“Kiffin can’t help himself. Always has to take a shot.”

Lane Kiffin’s History of Provocative Comments

This isn’t the first time Kiffin has stirred controversy with his social media activity or public comments. Known for his quick wit and unfiltered personality, the 50-year-old coach has a long track record of engaging in banter — sometimes at the expense of players, opponents, or even his own program. While many appreciate his candor, others see it as unprofessional, especially when directed at former players.

For now, the comment has reignited debates about coach-player boundaries and the line between humor and disrespect. Dart has not publicly responded, focusing instead on preparing for his second season with the Giants.
