The Cleveland Browns have been linked to Jalen Hurts via trade.
The Cleveland Browns are leaving no stone unturned in their search to upgrade the quarterback room and one bold idea making the rounds would land them Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts.
The idea appeared to stem from a conversation on 92.3 The Fan’s Afternoon Drive.
“A fifth-round pick for Tanner McKee or the (No.) 6 pick for Jalen Hurts?” Nick Wilson proposed.
“Sixth overall, you get Jalen Hurts — I feel like it’s not even a question. It’s a question for the people in Philadelphia. Do I think Jalen Hurts is the greatest quarterback I’ve ever seen? No, I don’t. Do I think he comes with some limitation? I do,” Jonathan Peterlin responded. “I’d give up the No. 6 overall pick for Jalen Hurts and I don’t think that’s a hot take.”
The Browns quarterback room is currently constructed with Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. It’s not a powerhouse group with little certainty, but Cleveland seems content to roll with the trio in an “open competition.”
“I’m excited about Shedeur, excited about Deshaun and Dillon,” new head coach Todd Monken said. “I’m excited about the prospects, not only in free agency but also in the draft and we’ll see where it all falls. Ultimately you’ve got to do whatever you need to do, especially at that position, to put yourself in position to score points.”
Jalen Hurts’ Value Has Been Debated
No quarterback in the NFL generates more debate than Hurts. He has led the Eagles to two Super Bowl appearances in the last four years, including a blowout win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. He also took home Super Bowl MVP honors during that game, yet his status as an elite quarterback remains perpetually contested.
Critics point to his raw passing numbers: fewer than 3,000 yards and just 18 touchdown passes during the 2024 regular season, along with a tendency to lean on checkdowns and scrambles rather than pushing the ball downfield. Hurts notched 3,224 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just six interceptions last season.
The counterargument, of course, is that winning is winning. He has a 57-25 overall record as the starter and a Super Bowl on his resume.
Jalen Hurts to Browns Trade Chatter Sparks Debate
The Hurts to the Browns debate — and if he’d be worth the No. 6 pick — has generated some strong opinions.
“This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Of all the stupid things that have been said on these airwaves,” Ken Carman of 92.3 The Fan said. “It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. I can’t stand the stupidity.”
“At 6, I’m not trading for Jalen Hurts. That pick has to be a QB you win because of, not just win with,” cleveland.com’s Lance Reisland said. “He’s a big piece, no doubt. But at that spot, you need to be the biggest piece. I’m out on that move.”
“I don’t know what’s dumber, believing that Jalen Hurts is worth the 6th overall pick or actually believing that Tanner McKee is an NFL QB. What are we doing here guys?” a fan added.
Others were quick to point out that Hurts has a no-trade clause and it seems very unlikely that he’d approve a trade to Cleveland.
