The Washington Commanders have been heavily interested in adding wide receiver talent during the 2026 NFL offseason to support Jayden Daniels. Unfortunately, they have come up short on their big swings.
Both Romeo Doubs and Alec Pierce were players that the Commanders pursued. They both chose to sign with other teams. Doubs went to the New England Patriots, while Pierce decided to stay with the Indianapolis Colts.
With that being said, Washington has reportedly remained interested in adding wide receiver talent.
Some have connected them to other free agency targets. The trade market has also been brought up as an option. However, the 2026 NFL Draft might be the Commanders’ best avenue to bringing in a playmaker for Daniels.
One name in particular could become a clear target for Washington.
Washington Commanders Have Clear Target in NFL Draft
There are multiple areas of need for the Commanders. Thankfully, when it comes to the wide receiver position, the 2026 class is deep with talent.
Keeping that in mind, Alabama Crimson Tide standout receiver Germie Bernard could be a perfect fit for Washington and Daniels.
Bernard is coming off of a 2025 college football season at Alabama that saw him become a go-to target for fellow NFL Draft prospect Ty Simpson. He racked up 64 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns.
To begin his college career, Bernard played on season at Michigan State in 2022. He then played at Washington in 2023 and finished out the last two years with the Crimson Tide.
Throughout his four years, Bernard totaled 155 catches for 2,203 yards and 13 scores.
What Would Germie Bernard Bring to the Commanders?
Standing in at 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds, Bernard is known for his route running ability. He won’t be a wide receiver with blazing top-tier speed, but he finds ways to make plays.
Bleacher Report has unveiled a very interesting NFL comparison for Bernard. They think that he compares favorably to former star wide receiver Jarvis Landry.
If Bernard could carve out a career for himself anywhere close to the one that Landry had, it would be a massive success. Adding that kind of player for Daniels would also help the Commanders’ offense take the next step.
With the 2026 NFL Draft still just over a month away, there is no telling for sure what Washington will do. However, it would be reasonable for fans to expect the Commanders to bring in a wide receiver at the latest on day two.
That being said, Bernard is a name to keep an eye on. He could be a clear target for Washington if he’s available, especially in the third round.
