Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic continues to make his mark in the history books. The NBA star is having one of the best season of his career, making him one of the favorites to win the MVP in the 2025-26 season. On Thursday, Doncic established himself as the franchise leader for most made 3-pointers in a season.
The Slovenian star is coming off a 40-point display against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. He led the Lakers to their seventh-straight win and is eyeing their eighth against the Miami Heat.
Against the Heat, Doncic has not shown signs of slowing down and has continued his scoring barrage.

Through the first three quarters, Doncic led the charge for the Lakers with a 97-88 lead. He scored 40 points through 7-for-14 shooting from downtown. Before the game started, the NBA star had 223 3-pointers made this season, which put him close to Russell's record of 226 in 2023-24.
Even before the game reached the fourth quarter, Doncic already established himself as the player with the most 3-pointers made in the Lakers' history.
Before the Heat game, Doncic had averaged 3.9 3-pointers made through 57 games. It's the most shots made from downtown in the entire league. He also leads the NBA in attempts, with 10.7 a game.
According to the Lakers' injury report, Doncic was questionable due to right hip soreness. However, head coach JJ Redick upgraded the NBA star to available before tip-off. His co-stars, LeBron James and Austin Reaves, were also questionable. Eventually, the team's Big 3 were upgraded.
Doncic has a chance to win the MVP this season. In the latest update for the award, the Lakers star is No. 4, after being No. 6 in the previous update. Winning the trophy is something that the six-time All-Star wants to achieve this season. After the team's 112-108 win against the Philadelphia 76ers in December, it's one of the things he wants to have in his career.
"I just play my game. You never know what's gonna happen," he said. "Obviously, I want it. Anybody in the world that plays basketball wants it, so we'll see what happens."
In the past, Doncic has been one of the favorites to win the MVP. The closest chance he had was during the 2023-24 season, when he finished in the top 3 in the voting. This year, he has a real shot at winning, since the Lakers are third in the Western Conference standings.
