The sky appears to be the limit for Max Dowman, who could make history again after his record-breaking goal for Arsenal against Everton

Phil Foden’s record as the youngest player ever to win a Premier League medal could be broken by Arsenal sensation Max Dowman this season. Dowman announced himself to the world of senior professional football last weekend in unforgettable fashion.
Having become the youngest person ever to play in the Champions League earlier this season aged 15, the teenager was brought on in the second-half of last weekend’s Premier League game against Everton.
Despite the high pressure context of the game, with Arsenal on the cusp of a potential title-threatening 0-0 draw, Dowman showcased skills and maturity well beyond his years to help win the game. The Hale End academy product’s cross in the 89th minute directly led to a Jordan Pickford mistake, which allowed Viktor Gyokeres to score the opener.
Dowman’s lofty standing as one of the brightest talents in world football was even clearer to see when he ran the length of the pitch during a counter before slotting in the winner in the 97th minute.
That made him the youngest ever Premier League goal-scorer, aged 16 and 73 days, in what many expect to be a special career. And the teenage prodigy could still break more records this season, including one set by Manchester City’s Foden back in May 2018.
Dowman has made three league appearances already this season, meaning he needs just two more across Arsenal’s seven remaining fixtures to earn a Premier League winners’ medal, should they not squander their nine-point lead in the table at this late stage.
The Gunners are expected to finally win a league title, which would make Dowman the youngest player ever to do so. Having only turned 16 on New Years’ Eve, Dowman would shatter Foden’s record of clinching the title aged 17 and 350 days.
Foden, who reached the minimum five appearances required in the 2017/18 season for City, did not manage to score a goal across those games, unlike Dowman. And the pair could face each other for the first time this Sunday in the highly-anticipated Carabao Cup final.

Former PFA Players’ Player of the Year Foden, 25, is currently having a disappointing season by his lofty standards, having scored 10 goals and assisted five times in all competitions. Yet, he is expected to be named in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad announcement ahead of two World Cup 2026 preparation fixtures later this month.
Meanwhile, the general consensus is that the World Cup this summer will come too soon for Dowman and he is therefore expected to miss out on the upcoming friendlies. Tuchel not calling up Dowman at this stage would not be an assessment of his ability but rather an effort to protect him from the limelight at such a young age.
