Jonathan Kuminga final status in first Warriors face-off revealed

Kuminga will skip the Hawks' Friday contest against the Rockets in preparation for his highly anticipated first game vs. Golden State.

Jonathan Kuminga will not play for the Atlanta Hawks in their Friday clash against the Houston Rockets due to his lingering knee injury.

But apparently, he is expected to be reactivated on the weekend, facing his former team.

According to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area, Kuminga, barring any last-minute change, will be available for the Hawks on Saturday against the Golden State Warriors.

It will be the first encounter for both Kuminga and the Warriors after over a month since both sides saw the end of their highly dramatic stand-off. Along with Buddy Hield, Kuminga was dealt by the Dubs to Atlanta for Kristaps Porzingis before the past NBA trade deadline.

Infuriated about his lack of development as well as his inconsistent role and playing time under Steve Kerr, Kuminga sought new beginnings outside Golden State. As an unrestricted free agent, the young forward hesitantly signed a two-year, $48.5 million deal with the Warriors in late September after months of contract disputes.

Right now, Kuminga is enjoying his new chapter as a Hawk. After his Atlanta debut was pushed by his knee complications, he instantly plugged himself as an important piece for the rising group.

Kuminga appeared in six games so far for the Hawks, averaging 14.8 points in nearly 57 percent shooting with 7.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists across 22.7 minutes of play.
