Chelsea are said to be willing to pay above asking to land another young talent.
Chelsea are said to be willing to outbid a couple of their Premier League rivals to get an attacking transfer over the line. The Blues need to improve their squad this summer, with inconsistency having plagued Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.
The Blues have a young and talented squad, with the club bosses having been rewarded, in many ways, for a transfer strategy that has revolved around signing young players with room to grow and develop.
But the strategy is now holding Chelsea back from taking the next step towards being a title-level team. The Blues need at least a couple of ready-made top-level players, and it will be interesting to see if the club chiefs finally give in to that this summer.
One player the Blues have regularly been linked with over recent weeks is Koln star Said El Mala, who has been impressing in Bundesliga since arriving at Koln last summer.
The 19-year-old winger has nine goals and four assists from out wide, and he was reportedly the subject of an offer from Brighton in January, but it was rejected.
Both clubs are said to be willing to pay above the £34.5million asking price, reportedly willing to pay £38.8million to get a deal done this summer. Both clubs are also said to be willing to offer a long-term contract to the player.
But it will be interesting to see what El Mala thinks of the interest, given he will want to play regularly at his next club, and he is likely to be another future project player at Chelsea. Brighton would likely be his best best for regular game time, but Koln may prefer a deal that will give them more money, potentially taking the Seagulls out of the mix.
