Spurs' Victor Wembanyama and Suns' Devin Booker
The Phoenix Suns’ struggles continued Thursday as San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama sank a game-winning field goal with 1.1 seconds remaining to earn a 101-100 win.
Suns’ Losing Streak Reaches Four As Victor Wembanyama Calls Game
Phoenix, which led by double digits in the final frame, has now lost four straight and has fallen to 39-31 on the season, ending its six-game road trip with a 2-4 record.
What appeared to be a promising night for the Suns ended in heartbreak, as the team showed plenty of resolve despite being without Grayson Allen, Dillon Brooks, Haywood Highsmith, Royce O’Neale and Mark Williams, but it needed to make just one more play to earn the win.
While Collin Gillespie broke out of his recent slump, Devin Booker (22) and Jalen Green (17) combined to score 39 points on 15-of-41 shooting.
On the Spurs side, Wembanyama was the closer, finishing with 34 points and 12 rebounds, while De’Aaron Fox led them to the finish line, scoring 23 points in the process.
As the Suns look to pick up the pieces for their final 12 games of the season, PHNX Suns postgame looks back at what the team could have done differently and how they can remedy these issues before it’s too late.
