Filip Jorgensen is set to miss some time for Chelsea, and that’s probably going to be a good thing for the team in some ways.

His absence against Newcastle at the weekend, coming just days after his horror mistake in Paris, was seen as very convenient. A little too convenient to be real. But the news today that he’s had surgery and will be out until after the international break confirms it’s a serious issue.

Chelsea will get some benefit from Jorgensen absence

It should actually work in Chelsea’s favour for this final run of the season. Liam Rosenior’s insane decision to put the Dane in for Robert Sanchez just as results for the team became imperative rattled both of them, and may have major future consequences, but at least Sanchez now knows he’s got the shirt for the season. That should help him relax and get back to his best.

Jorgensen can go away and lick his wounds – and probably work with Chelsea on making an exit this summer. He already wasn’t playing as much as he wanted, and now he’s really blotted his copybook. Still, given how reluctant we’ve been to buy other goalkeepers, maybe we’ll be treated to a third year of Jorgensen and Sanchez teaming up.

Liam Rosenior blamed translation issues for Enzo Fernandez’s declaration that was considering leaving Chelsea.
