Romano says Arsenal in ‘active talks’ with Declan Rice

There’s no doubting that Declan Rice is one of the world’s best midfielders right now. The England international has been excellent ever since coming to the Emirates, but this season, he has arguably been Arsenal’s best player.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are making a contract extension for Rice a priority. He posted on Instagram: “Arsenal are in active talks to get new deal done for Declan Rice! Rice has three years on current deal but Arsenal plan to reward several players — Declan always seen as crucial.

“After Saka, Rice and Jurrien Timber are next ones seen important part of the project to negotiate new contract. Talks at early stages but club optimistic, as BBC report.”

Rice has been sensational this season, earning himself a lot of praise from several big name pundits. He was recently compared to former Man United captain Roy Keane by Jamie Carragher via the Athletic.

Carragher said: “The one who stands out every time I watch him play is Declan Rice. What a player, honest to God… For me, he is the modern-day Roy Keane…Roy did a bit of everything… Declan has the set pieces too…

“His passing is fantastic. No one can run past him…I actually don’t think we still give him enough praise.”
