Four Arsenal players have been named in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke all got the nod for what is the final Interlull before next summer’s World Cup.
Myles Lewis-Skelly misses out for a second camp in a row, his limited game time at Arsenal counting against him. He had started five of England’s eight matches between March and November last year. We’re waiting to see if he links up with the under-21s instead, potentially alongside Tommy Setford and Ethan Nwaneri, who have Euro qualifiers.
Ben White, last involved at the Qatar World Cup, is also absent.
Elsewhere, Cristhian Mosquera has been promoted from Spain’s under-21s to the senior squad, joining David Raya and Martin Zubimendi. The reigning European champions face Serbia and Egypt in friendlies.
Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli are included in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for games against William Saliba’s France and Croatia in the United States.
Kai Havertz returns to the Germany set-up for matches with Switzerland and Ghana, while Viktor Gyokeres will lead the line for Sweden in a decisive World Cup play-off against Ukraine in Valencia. They made a mess of qualifying but have been handed a second chance thanks to their Nations League form.
Riccardo Calafiori’s Italy and Christian Norgaard’s Denmark are also in play-off action, facing Northern Ireland and North Macedonia, respectively.
We’re still waiting on confirmation of the Netherlands, Ecuador and Belgium squads, although you’d expect Jurrien Timber, Piero Hincapie and Leandro Trossard to be involved.
Injuries to Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino mean they won’t be involved with Norway and Spain, while Kepa and Gabriel Jesus are the others twiddling their thumbs.
