The New England Patriots still seem to have some level of interest in A.J. Brown, but may not actually swing a trade until the Philadelphia Eagles drop the asking price.
The Eagles reportedly want a first-round pick for Brown, but his cap implications will change on June 1, perhaps dropping the price. It's no secret that Brown would like to play for the Patriots. He joked about the matter on "Dudes on Dudes" with Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski.
He also pranked Eagles fans last offseason by making them think he got traded to the Patriots. The whole world seems to think that if he is traded, the Patriots will be the team that takes the swing. Even the Patriots players hear the rumors, because during a behind-the-scenes look at Kevin Byard's appearance on "Schultz Report," he joked about Brown getting traded to the Patriots.
While NFL insider Jordan Schultz was filming with Byard, news of Christian Kirk signing with the San Francisco 49ers dropped. While Schultz focused on breaking the news, Byard said: "I was hoping you were going to say A.J. Brown's getting traded to New England."
Byard understands what the situation is. The Patriots reportedly have interest despite signing Romeo Doubs. However, now they are playing the waiting game.
Brown is an elite receiver, and adding him would cap off a great offseason. Byard and Brown were teammates with the Tennessee Titans under Mike Vrabel, and also worked out together recently.
