Bucks owner confirms Giannis will be traded if no agreement reached

Bucks owner Wes Edens says Giannis Antetokounmpo will be traded if he doesn't accept an extension.

After a very chaotic trade deadline, during which the Milwaukee Bucks were widely expected to part ways with their superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo via trade, the rumors had significantly quieted down.

However, the potential Giannis trade talks have once again resurfaced in the rumor mill.

Bucks owner Wes Edens revealed that the team could trade Giannis if he doesn’t accept a new contract extension, saying they can’t afford to let him walk for nothing.

“Giannis is going into the last year [of his contract]. So one of two things will happen: either he will be extended or he’ll be traded,” Edens told ESPN.

“The likelihood that you’ll let him just kind of play out the last year—we can’t afford that. It’s not consistent with what’s good for the organization. That’s not a Giannis issue. That’s any player who’s in their last year.”

Antetokounmpo is eligible to receive a four-year, $275 million extension on October 1.

The 31-year-old has spent his entire 13-year career with the Milwaukee Bucks and is under contract with the team until the summer of 2027, with a $62.7 million player option for the 2027–28 season.

This season, Giannis has been dealing with injuries, appearing in 36 games and averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists.
