The Browns have re-signed veteran defensive lineman Sam Kamara in free agency

The Cleveland Browns have a lot of work to do this offseason, and to this point, they have managed to make some serious improvements across the board. The majority of the front office’s work is going to have to come on the offensive side of the ball, but the Browns are also going to look to keep their defense, which was one of the top units in the league last season, in tip-top shape as well.

While fans always want to see flashy signings get made, sometimes, the most important moves are the ones that fly under the radar. With that in mind, the Browns made a big decision on one of their own free agents, defensive lineman Sam Kamara, that will surely catch fans’ attention as the offseason continues to roll on.

Browns Re-Sign Sam Kamara in Free Agency

DL Sam Kamara is re-signing with the Browns, per his agency LAA.

Kamara went undrafted in 2021, but he latched on with the Chicago Bears and ended up playing in eight games for them as a rookie. After getting released early in the 2022 campaign, Kamara went about a month without finding a home before the Browns eventually came calling, and he’s been a member of their team ever since then.

Over the past four seasons, Kamara has played sparingly, as he’s suited up for just 18 total games. Even then, once Kamara gets on the field, his production has been lacking, as he has just 28 tackles and no sacks for Cleveland. However, he is a solid run defender, as Kamara has five tackles for loss, three of which came in 2025, even though he played in only four games.

The Browns let Kamara hit the open market, as he likely wanted to poke around and see if there was a bigger role for him with another team across the league. Instead, he has found his way back to Cleveland, as reports indicate that he has re-signed with the team on Friday morning, giving it a key piece of its defensive line depth for the 2026 campaign.

As noted above, Kamara only played in four games for the Browns last season, so it’s not as if this is a groundbreaking move by the team. However, he has experience within the team’s defensive system, and should injuries flare up (which they often do), Cleveland can rest assured knowing it has a veteran in Kamara who can come in and hold his own when called upon.

There’s no guarantee that Kamara will make the Browns’ roster, but even if he doesn’t, there’s a decent chance he will stick around on the practice squad as an extra layer of depth. It’s not the flashiest move, but if things go south for Cleveland on its defensive line, it will surely feel much better knowing it has Kamara waiting in the wings if needed.
