Oklahoma City Thunder star Jalen Williams has had enough of the street clothes. The last thing any athlete wants is to exhaust his or her wardrobe during the season.

The Thunder may be surging without the 24-year-old Williams, who notched his first All-Star and All-NBA NBA selection a season ago, but the defending champions know all too well they cannot muster up a thought about hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy in June until Williams returns healthy to the lineup.

In a season that has been disfigured by injuries, all Williams and Oklahoma City want is to see the former All-Star reach his full form before the close of the regular season.

There may be some very good news on the way.

Jalen Williams Teases Return on Instagram

In the midst of his best game all year, Williams basked in the glory of every made bucket during a February road game against the Phoenix Suns. Little did he or anyone expect he would sustain a second hamstring strain that same night.

It has been well over a month since Williams dropped dimes and buckets on the court. He is even well past his original reevaluation date, which was shortly after the NBA All-Star break.

Recently, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault revealed the star swingman was “progressing,” hinting that Williams’ return to the hardwood would be sooner than later. And then even more recently, Williams took to Instagram to perhaps indicate his injury comeback is getting very close.

The 24-year-old hopes to play again very soon. With the 82-game marathon marching to a close, the Thunder would certainly want to see their star see some runway before the start of the postseason. Re-establishing chemistry and continuity with his teammates will be a vital initial step once he returns. The team will likely need a few games to reingratiate Williams in a productive fashion.

OKC Needs JDub at His Best to Repeat as Champion

The Thunder, winners of 10 in a row and 13 of their last 14 games, have been surging even without their second-best player. Much of that is thanks to the continued majestic play of soon-to-be two-time NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who recently tied together four consecutive games that featured a late step-back 3-pointer to tilt the game in his team’s favor. That’s not to mention back-to-back games in which he first tied Wilt Chamberlain’s 20-point scoring record and then broke the Hall of Famer’s record a game later against the Boston Celtics.

Gilgeous-Alexander remains the top talent in basketball and his impact on winning remains unquestioned, but in the confines of an unforgiving Western Conference playoff bracket, the 27-year-old will need his Robin.

During last year’s spring tournament, Williams was a critical piece in Oklahoma City’s championship pie. He authored several striking performances, none bigger than his 40-point masterpiece in Paycom Center that helped lift the Thunder to a 3-2 series advantage.

Remarkably, Williams played the entire playoffs with a torn ligament in his shooting wrist. To think Oklahoma City still came out victorious is stunning, to say the least.

The reigning champions are set to play the Washington Wizards in the nation’s capital Saturday. Oklahoma City hopes to see Williams off the injury report entering the contest.
