Malik Nabers had a hilarious response to seeing Abdul Carter's new jersey number with the Giants
The New York Giants may have only won four games in 2025, but there is some serious optimism surrounding the team heading into the new season. With a budding young group of stars leading the way, and John Harbaugh taking over as the team’s new head coach, there’s reason to believe that the Giants will be able to take a step forward when they return to action in 2026.
If New York intends to improve next season, though, it’s likely going to need to get more production out of Abdul Carter, who endured a bit of a rough rookie campaign. On Friday, Carter revealed that he will be changing his jersey number from 51 to 3, prompting star wide receiver Malik Nabers to issue a hilarious response.
Malik Nabers Roasts Abdul Carter for Jersey Number Decision
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, expectations were high for Carter in his first season with the Giants. And yet, despite playing all 17 games, Carter finished with 43 tackles and just four sacks, while also getting disciplined on multiple occasions for missing team activities. Simply put, Carter’s rookie campaign left quite a bit to be desired.
If there’s anyone who knows what a strong rookie season looks like, it’s Nabers. After getting selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Nabers immediately established himself as one of the top wide receivers in the league, as he racked up 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2025, though, Nabers’ season ended after just four games when he suffered a torn ACL.
Nabers should be ready to go for the start of New York’s 2026 campaign, and when he returns to action, he will see a new-look Carter, at least when it comes to his jersey number. Unsurprisingly, some folks had strong reactions to Carter’s new jersey number, with Nabers hilariously calling out his teammate on social media.
“U pic sum weird numbers bro 🤣🤣🤣,” Nabers said in a comment on Carter’s latest Instagram post, where he officially announced his new jersey number.

Nabers and Carter are just two of the young studs the Giants have at their disposal who have fans hoping for better days in the near future. Assuming he can return to his prior form before his aforementioned injury, Nabers is already a de facto No. 1 wide receiver. In Carter, New York is hoping he can make a similar sort of impact as Nabers on the defensive side of the ball moving forward.
Could a new jersey number help change things up for Carter? Maybe, although Nabers certainly doesn’t seem convinced, thanks to his unique choice. At the end of the day, though, the number on your jersey only means so much. If Carter puts together a breakout campaign in 2026, though, you can bet that New York will ensure that he wears the number three for as long as he’s wearing their jersey.
