Packers Get Massive Return In Proposed Josh Jacobs, Details Leaked To Public

The Green Bay Packers could be on the verge of a major offensive overhaul after a disappointing 2025 season that ended with a five-game losing streak and a wild-card exit against the Chicago Bears. Despite the addition of Josh Jacobs in free agency, Green Bay’s ground game lacked the explosive consistency needed to compete deep into January.

Now, one high-profile proposal has emerged that could dramatically reshape the backfield: trading for Miami Dolphins star running back De’Von Achane to eventually replace Jacobs.

Green Bay Packers Named In Massive Running Back Trade With The Miami Dolphins

Matt Schneidman of The Athletic floated the idea:

“Achane is only 24, and he’s one of the NFL’s most explosive backs. Jacobs is probably near the end of his prime at 28 years old. Achane, a 2023 third-round pick, has one year left on his rookie deal and could share a backfield with Jacobs before taking over next season after getting paid.

It wouldn’t be hard for [Packers GM Brian] Gutekunst to ring up his former second-in-command, either.”

The proposal has gained significant traction among Packers fans and analysts, as Achane’s elite speed and big-play ability would inject a new dimension into Matt LaFleur’s offense.

Why De’Von Achane Would Be a Game-Changer for the Packers

Achane has quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous running backs in the NFL. In his first three seasons with the Dolphins, he has averaged 5.7 yards per carry, consistently breaking off explosive runs and forcing defenses to account for him on every snap. His youth (24 years old) and one remaining year on his rookie contract make him an ideal long-term investment for Green Bay.

The Packers could deploy Achane and Jacobs in a true two-back system in 2026, giving defenses fits with a power-speed combination that few teams could match.

Once Jacobs’ contract situation becomes more expensive, Achane would be ready to step in as the lead back — potentially on a new deal with Green Bay — ensuring the Packers maintain a dynamic run game for years to come.

Miami Dolphins Rebuilding Rumors Fuel Packers Trade Speculation

The Dolphins have undergone significant changes this offseason, cutting wide receiver Tyreek Hill, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and sending Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos. The moves have placed Miami in full rebuild mode, leading to speculation that Achane could be available if the price is right.

However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the Dolphins have no intention of trading Achane. The 24-year-old is expected to remain a central figure in new head coach Jeff Hafley offense for 2026. That said, the Packers — with their cap flexibility and desire to stay young— could theoretically make an offer Miami would have to seriously consider.

For now, the proposal remains speculative, but it has sparked intense discussion among Packers fans and media. The idea of pairing Achane’s home-run speed with Jacobs’ power and adding that combination to an offense already featuring Jordan Love, Christian Watson, and Jayden Reed has many in Green Bay dreaming big.
