The Pittsburgh Steelers will pick at No. 21 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The city of Pittsburgh is hosting the NFL Draft for the first time in late April. The league’s largest and most exciting event of the offseason, the draft is likely to create plenty of chaos in the Steel City. Luckily for the students in many Pittsburgh-area schools, that chaos is causing the shutdown of their schools for a couple of days.
According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, public schools in the city of Pittsburgh will work remotely from April 22-24 as the city hosts the NFL Draft. Schefter also noted that due to certain road closures and heavy traffic, students and faculty working from home is the best decision for all parties.
Expect Plenty of Pittsburgh Steelers in Attendance

While schools may be shut down, don’t expect any diehard Steelers fans to be stuck at home. Fresh off another double-digit win season, along with an AFC North title, the Steelers should expect to see their fans in full force. With seven draft picks inside the first four rounds of the draft, the organization has a great chance to add plenty of quality prospects early and often.

Pittsburgh Public Schools will operate remotely from April 22–24 as the city prepares to host the 2026 NFL Draft.
With road closures, heightened security, parking restrictions, and heavy traffic expected, the city believes remote learning is the best option during that time.
This offseason also marks the first time since 2006 that Mike Tomlin will not be the team’s head coach. Instead, Pittsburgh native and former Super Bowl champion head coach Mike McCarthy will now take the reins as the franchise’s fourth head coach in the last 57 years.
Plenty of Intrigue Surrounding the Steelers
Aaron Rodgers
GettyAaron Rodgers remains unsigned by the Steelers.
Not only is the McCarthy hire enough to create plenty of intrigue around the organization and city itself, but the team is still without a starting quarterback. Future first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still a free agent. While McCarthy has spoken to Rodgers this offseason, a decision has not been made yet on his future. Keep in mind, the four-time MVP recorded 25 total touchdowns and just seven interceptions a season ago for Tomlin and Co.
Aside from communicating with Rodgers, the team was also very active in free agency. It traded for two-time 1,000-yard wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and signed former Super Bowl champion cornerback Jamel Dean in the early window of free agency. Furthermore, it signed back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher Rico Dowdle and veteran defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day to two-year deals. These moves appear to be the moves of a team that is looking to win right now.
There is no doubt that the Steelers are one of the league’s most interesting teams heading into the 2026 season. A new head coach. The possible return of one of the league’s greatest quarterbacks. Plenty of veteran talent on both sides of the football. This is all why the city of Pittsburgh was perhaps the best choice for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Expect a massive contingent of Steelers fans to show up and show out for their team. After all, the Steelers could be on the verge of something special if they draft well a month from now.
