Special teams played a key role in the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl run this past season.
How Seahawks are poised for stockpile of picks in strong 2027 NFL Draft
The Seahawks had five special teams touchdowns across both the regular season and postseason, which made them one of just 10 teams in the Super Bowl era to accomplish that feat. They also had two blocked field goals, a blocked punt and one of the best kick coverage units in the league. As a result, they finished No. 2 in FTN Fantasy’s special teams DVOA metric.
And this offseason, the Seahawks have prioritized keeping their elite special teams unit intact.
Most notably, Seattle re-signed speedy wide receiver/return specialist Rashid Shaheed, who was a game-changer down the stretch with two kick return touchdowns and a pivotal punt return score.
But the Seahawks didn’t stop there.
They re-signed de facto special teams captain Brady Russell, who logged a team-high 14 special teams tackles. They reportedly are re-signing Chazz Surratt, who finished second on the team with 11 special teams tackles.
The signed D’Anthony Bell, who logged the fourth-most special teams snaps for Seattle this past season. They reportedly are re-signing long snapper Chris Stoll. And they re-signed Cody White, who had four kick returns for 106 yards in 2025 and a blocked punt in 2024.
During Thursday’s Blue 88 on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk, former NFL quarterback Brock Huard highlighted the Seahawks’ investment in the game’s third phase.
“They’ve brought back every special teams demon they have,” Huard said. “All of their core special teams guys, guess what they’re doing? They’re coming back here. Because I know it isn’t just talk.
“You guys walk it, it’s important to you and you pay for it. … That No. 1 special teams unit in the league won them some games last year, and more than likely will win them more in 2026.”
