The Detroit Lions are making moves, and on Friday, March 20, they shared photos of one of their new players signing.
The Detroit Lions haven’t made too many headlines with their moves during the NFL offseason, because Brad Holmes doesn’t like to spend big. But, on Friday, March 20, the team shared photos of a former Dallas Cowboys player signing his contract with the franchise.
During the offseason, the Lions have signed a bevy of players to smaller, one-year deals, and while these players don’t have the flashy names of some of the blockbuster free agents, they’re still worth celebrating. Nearly every day since the beginning of NFL free agency on March 11, the Detroit Lions have taken to social media to introduce a new player or make a signing official.
On Friday, the Lions welcomed their newest player into the fold, a former Dallas Cowboys player, and he signed his contract with a big smile on his face, wearing a large cross hanging from his neck.
Detroit Lions Welcome New Player, a Former Dallas Cowboys Player, as He Signs His Contract
It must feel good to be a free agent who finds a new home. That’s the case with linebacker Damone Clark, who is now a Detroit Lions player.
The Lions confirmed his signing on Wednesday, March 18, and shared photos of him signing his deal on Friday, March 20. The player comes to Detroit after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Houston Texans in 2025 and Dallas Cowboys from 2022 to 2025. So, even though he was most recently with the Texans, he’s been a Cowboy for most of his career.
“Ready to get to work,” the Lions posted in a caption alongside the photo gallery on social media.
Clark, according to Lions research, was picked by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round, 176th overall, of the 2022 NFL Draft out of LSU. He’s played in 55 career games with 26 starts and has notched 190 total tackles, six tackles for loss, four pass defenses and two forced fumbles.
So, is Clark any good, and will he help the Detroit Lions’ case? A to Z Sports Cowboys beat writer Mauricio Rodriguez says of the player, “Clark is worth rolling the dice on as a high-end backup for a defense that prioritizes speed and athleticism on the second level.” That’s a solid endorsement from someone who has followed Clark for years.
Detroit Lions Shaping Up for the 2026-27 Season
So, how are the Lions looking heading into the new season? In super early NFL power rankings for the 2026-27 season, ESPN has the Lions at No. 7. “After failing to reach the postseason, the Lions need to focus on improving their offensive line — particularly in the interior. Dan Skipper announced his retirement in January, and it goes without saying that the unit wasn’t up to par this season,” Eric Woodyard said in the feature.
Woodyard added, “The Lions were 31st in pass block win rate at 55.5% and could benefit from taking a guard in the early rounds of the 2026 draft. Even All-Pro tackle Penei Sewell admitted after the season that the unit wasn’t completely in sync and will look to get its “swagger back” under new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.”
