Update: The Miami Heat Receive Injury News Ahead of Rockets Game

Andrew Wiggins

The Miami Heat announced that Andrew Wiggins and Jaime Jaquez Jr. will not play against the Houston Rockets on March 21.

The Miami Heat are coming off a 134-126 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on March 19. It’s the team’s third consecutive loss after winning their previous seven games.

With the loss, the Heat are 38-32 and dropped to eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings, tied with the Philadelphia 76ers.

They will return on Saturday, March 21, against the Houston Rockets on the road. Ahead of the matchup, the Heat will be without two major contributors.

Starting forward and major contributor Andrew Wiggins will be out for the Miami Heat with a toe injury.

Wiggins has missed seven consecutive games with his injury. The Heat have gone 4-3 in that span, including wins against the Charlotte Hornets and the Detroit Pistons.

Throughout the season, the Heat have a record of 8-5 when Wigging doesn’t play. He’s averaging 15.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.

“He’s making progress, he’s not ready to go tonight,” Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra told the media before the Heat’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. “He still has to ramp up, but we’re encouraged by the progress he’s made the last few days.”

Jaime Jaquez Jr. will miss his second consecutive game for the Miami Heat. The forward injured his hip during the Heat’s 136-106 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on March 17.

Jaquez has been a major factor in the success of the Heat’s second unit this season. He’s averaging 15 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game on 50% shooting from the field.

Erik Spoelstra labeled Jaquez’s hip injury as “day-to-day” before the Heat’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

“It happened in the game, but he’s already done a ton of treatment. He’s starting to feel better. So treat him day to day,” Spoelstra said.

What are Other Injury Updates for the Miami Heat?

Pelle Larsson

GettyMiami Heat guard Pelle Larsson was added to the team’s injury report ahead of their game against the Houston Rockets. He is listed as questionable to play.

Andrew Wiggins and Jaime Jaquez Jr. are the only two players who have been ruled out with an injury, but there are two additional players on the injury report.

“Pelle Larsson (foot) and Simone Fontecchio (back) are questionable,” Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald said.

Both Larsson and Fontecchio started for the Miami Heat against the Los Angeles Lakers; their absence would be a large hit to the Heat’s chances against the Houston Rockets.

Larsson finished with 11 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds in 33 minutes. Fontecchio finished with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 19 minutes.

Both players, particularly Larsson, have been an essential part of the Heat’s success this season. When Larsson starts, the Heat have a 27-19 record.
