U21 Report | Wolves 0-4 Chelsea

Wolves 0 Chelsea 4 (Derry 28’, McMahon 35’, Kavuma-McQueen 38’, Walsh 61’)

Wolves under-21s were defeated in the Premier League 2 against Chelsea at the Aggborough Stadium on Friday evening.

Jesse Derry was first to strike for the Blues before Harrison McMahon and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen's lightning quick strikes' extended their lead to three and despite a spirited effort from Wolves, Reggie Walsh’s goal rounded off all three points for the visitors.

Tom Edozie’s well hit free kick forced Max Merrick into a full stretched save in the opening minutes.

Wolves did well to keep the league leaders at bay with several defensive blocks, often trying to catch the visitors on the counter attack.

Derry’s effort in the 20th minute had beaten Alfie Brookes but, remarkably, a piece of brave defending from Saheed Olagunju on the line managed to keep the strike out of Wolves’ net.

However, Chelsea did eventually get the breakthrough when Derry’s header found the bottom corner in the 28th minute.

The Old Gold responded quickly to the setback and Fin Ashworth’s powerful effort narrowly missed the target minutes later.

The visitors then extended their lead to three with two quickfire goals McMahon and a stunner from Kavuma-McQueen.

After the restart, Ethan Sutherland was denied in a one-on-one against Merrick while James Collins’ side searched for a route back into the game.

Substitute Walsh finished his effort from close range in the 61st minute and ultimately put the game beyond Wolves.

Attacking chances for the hosts were extremely limited, however Brookes had to make a handful of solid saves to keep the visitors at four throughout the remainder of the fixture.
