Denim shoes? Denim basketball uniforms? Latest Book 2 pays homage to Devin Booker’s alma mater

Denim basketball attire may sound bizarre, but to those around Kentucky basketball, like Devin Booker, it’s just your average changeup.

Nike on Friday revealed the latest Book 2 design, known as the “Must Be The Denim” edition.

The design is a tribute to when Kentucky, Booker’s alma mater, wore denim uniforms in Booker’s birth year of 1996.

“These were at first real denim, but they were so heavy it was no way with our style of play we were going to be Cat quick,” Wayne Turner, who won two championships at Kentucky, tweeted in 2022. “Our home jersey had real denim on the sides.”

Converse, which Nike bought in 2003, was responsible for the uniforms that can’t possibly be very practical.

Booker has issued several editions of his second signature shoe, including player editions for Nike schools like Arizona, BYU, Michigan State and others. There are also a few Suns-themed colorways, such as the Valley edition.
