London City Lionesses vs. Chelsea Fcw, Women’s Super League: Preview, team news, how to watch

With five matches left in the Women’s Super League and seven points separating Chelsea Women from league leaders Manchester City, you can never rule us out of a late title challenge. For that to happen we need to stay on the winning track and beat all those in our path, including the newly promoted London City Lionesses in a trip to Millwall’s The Den.

**London City team news:** The Lionesses have had some trouble adapting to the realities of Women’s Super League football after winning the Championship last season. At the very least they are 10 points ahead of last-place Leicester City in the relegation spot.

Head coach Eder Maestre, who joined the club in January after the sacking of Jocelyn Prêcheur, has a mostly clean slate for injuries with only attacker Corinne Henson out of contention with a thigh problem. Otherwise his team is yet another one affected by the AFC Women’s Asian Cup final since Australian centre-back Alanna Kennedy and Japanese midfielder Saki Kumagai are with their respective national teams, who will clash for the title this Saturday morning.

**Chelsea team news:** If it wasn’t for an extremely lucky deflection the Blues would have had an easy cruise to victory against Brighton earlier this week. An increasingly rare occasion in a Women’s Super League that gets more difficult to navigate in each passing year.

In the injury department we might have both Millie Bright and Naomi Girma back in the fold as the centre-back duo was unavailable for last Wednesday’s game. Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr, who were in the scoreline of our 2-0 victory over London City back in November, are in the Matildas squad.

**Previously:** Aussies combine to give us a good start in this new local derby.
