THIELEN OFFICIALLY RETIRES
Wide receiver was a serious problem for the Steelers last year. DK Metcalf was fine, but no one behind him stepped up. Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson were expected to step up, but neither of them did. As a result, the Steelers claimed Adam Thielen off waivers near the end of the year. He played in five games for them, catching 11 passes for 117 yards.
Unfortunately, Thielen didn’t solve the Steelers’ receiver woes, with the team failing to win a playoff game again. He retired once the year ended. Now, he’s made that official, ending his career as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, as the team shared on Twitter. Thielen spent 10 seasons with the Vikings, making two Pro Bowls with them. He was an underrated player, and now, he’s calling it quits.
CITY EXPECTS BOOST FROM DRAFT
The NFL draft is coming to Pittsburgh this year. The event is only a little more than a month away, and it should be an exciting time for the Steelers and the city as a whole. However, some residents might not love it. People are going to flood to Pittsburgh for the draft, and that might make those few days more hectic.
However, it should still bring a lot of money to Pittsburgh. News station WPXI shared that the city expects a big boost in hotel tax revenue from the draft. Hotels are expected to be packed. Hopefully, that extra revenue is used to help make improve the city.
MATAKEVICH VISITS ALMA MATER
The Steelers selected linebacker Tyler Matakevich in the seventh round of the 2016 draft, and he put together a solid career. Matakevich spent the first four years of his career with the Steelers, being a key special teams player. Then he left them for Buffalo in free agency, being with the Bills for four years. Matakevich returned to Pittsburgh in 2024, though he’s been out of the league since that year ended.
If that was the end of Matakevich, then it was a fruitful career. He still hasn’t forgotten his roots, either. Before coming to the NFL, he spent four years playing college football at Temple. The university posted a video recently on Twitter showing Matakevich talking to players before Temple’s Pro Day. He’s got a good story, so he likely had good advice to pass on.
Always an honor 🐐
