The battle for the remaining Champions League positions behind Arsenal and Manchester City is heating up. Traditionally, a fourth-place finish has been the standard to qualify for UEFA's premier club competition.

However, in recent years, an additional spot has been allocated to the two nations that perform best across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

Newcastle United capitalised on the extra slot last season and despite English clubs' varied performances in the Champions League knockout stage this term, fifth place appears likely to be sufficient once more.

Liverpool, along with Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea, are all contenders, meaning at least one will miss out and have to make do with Europa League football. The ECHO forecasts each club's remaining results and final position...

Current position: 3rd

Leeds (h): The visitors will be battling for their Premier League survival but shouldn't have enough to halt United. Prediction: United 2-0 Leeds.

Chelsea (a): A crucial match that could swing either way. A draw seems like a safe bet, which would be handy Liverpool. Prediction: Chelsea 2-2 United.

Brentford (h): Keith Andrews' team have been one of the season's success stories, but it's difficult to envision the west Londoners taking anything from Old Trafford. Prediction: United 2-1 Brentford.

Current position: 4th

West Ham (h): The form side among the relegation strugglers won't be easy to beat. Prediction: Villa 1-1 West Ham.

Nottingham Forest (a): A challenging away game, but given Forest's current inability to find the net, Villa should take the points. Prediction: Forest 0-1 Villa.

Sunderland (h): A must-win match in Villa's pursuit of a Champions League spot. Prediction: Villa 2-0 Sunderland.

Fulham (a): A tough away game against a potent Fulham side. Prediction: Fulham 2-1 Villa.

Tottenham (h): While Spurs are beginning to show some resilience, Villa should still prevail. Prediction: Villa 2-1 Spurs.

Burnley (a): The Clarets ought to be relegated by then. Another must-win fixture. Prediction: Burnley 1-3 Villa.
