Arsenal star targeted as director flies to London–Work for big summer business starts

Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal defender Ricardo Calafiori is a potential target for Inter Milan, whose sporting directors are currently in London to watch players in person.

L’Interista report that Piero Ausilio, their sporting director, and his deputy Dario Baccin, have flown to London on a mission that could shape the club’s next era. The early signals point to a summer of major decisions.

Succession planning begins

The first priority is clear: identifying a successor to Yann Sommer. Guglielmo Vicario has emerged as the leading candidate, with his contract situation making him an interesting target.

He has two years left on his deal with Tottenham and is keen to depart. Reports this week have stated that transfer talks are already underway.

Calafiori for Bastoni

The real tension surrounds Alessandro Bastoni. Barcelona’s interest in the central defender has escalated to the point of becoming a genuine threat.

The Catalan club are reportedly willing to put the effort in to bring the defender to Spain this summer.

Bastoni remains deeply connected to Inter, yet the allure of Barcelona, and the project being pitched to him, is proving difficult to ignore.

That’s why Inter’s London trip carries added weight. Arsenal are also in London and Ricardo Calafiori is firmly on the Nerazzurri radar as a potential replacement.

Valuation, transfer feasibility and Inter’s strategy

Valued at around €50m, the Italian defender represents an attainable option. The move would not be simple, but it’s far from impossible. Inter are preparing for every scenario.

The question is whether Arsenal would be willing to sell the 23-year-old. He is a key player for Mikel Arteta when fit, albeit as a left-back rather than a centre-back.

Perhaps Inter could tempt him with an offer of regular football at centre-back.

The Gunners, though, would presumably demand more than €50m given they paid €43.7m in 2024. That valuation is simply the one given to him by Transfermarkt at this point.

Either way, with Barcelona pushing for Bastoni, Ricardo Calafiori is moving ahead in Inter’s thinking. The fact their two sporting directors are in London on a scouting mission certainly isn’t being overlooked in Italy.
