Buffalo Bills urged to sign 1x Super Bowl Champion wide receiver for Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills bolstered their offense for the 2026 NFL season by trading for wide receiver DJ Moore in the days leading up to the start NFL free agency. They sent center Garrett Bradbury to the Chicago Bears in exchange for Moore following the sudden retirement of Drew Dalman.

In what can be considered a win-win trade, Chicago found an affordable replacement for their Pro Bowl center in Bradbury while Buffalo gained a pass catcher who saw his role with the Bears diminish in 2025.

That being said, the Bills’ offense could still use a little bit more experience.

Indeed, the Bills offense has just about every weapon it needs. They have an MVP quarterback in Josh Allen, Moore as number one wide receiver, Pro Bowl running back James Cook, and a Pro Bowl tight end in Dalton Kincaid.

Despite these weapons, Buffalo has not been able to make it to the AFC Championship Game in years. In order to finally make it there and, hopefully, win a Super Bowl, they may want to sign another pass catcher who has already won one.

In a recent article in which he listed three NFL free agents the Bills could still sign, team insider Alex Brasky suggested Buffalo look into JuJu Smith-Schuster:

“Smith-Schuster spent the past two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, totaling 51 receptions, 576 yards and three touchdowns combined during the 2024 and 2025 campaigns. He started 20 games for the Chiefs over the past two years, averaging 11.6 yards per reception.

“The nine-year veteran is 29 years old, and he wouldn’t be a splash signing, as his projected average annual value (AAV) is just $2.1 million, per Spotrac. Still, he would provide added playoff experience to the Bills’ growing wide receiver room.

“Smith-Schuster won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2022 and has appeared in nine playoff games throughout his career, averaging nearly four receptions and 40 yards receiving per game while securing two touchdowns receiving during postseason play.”

As one can see, Smith-Schuster is not an expensive free agent and would not take away targets from Moore or other Bills wide receivers. He would, however, provide valuable insight as a player who has made it to and won the Super Bowl before, having done so with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last year, Smith-Schuster had 33 receptions for 345 yards and a touchdown. It was his best season since 2022 when he had 78 receptions for 933 yards and three touchdowns. The one-time Pro Bowler had fewer than 300 yards receiving in 2023 and 2024 as he battled injuries.

2025, though, was the first time that the former Pittsburgh Steelers star played a full 17-game season. If he can remain healthy, he could provide valuable leadership to the Bills and give Allen another quality target in the passing game.

For his career, Smith-Schuster 481 receptions for 5,624 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns.
